Walk from Redmires Reservoir to Wyming Brook

After last week to Stanage Edge Geoff met a chap that told him about a walk around Rivelin and Wyming Brook. So it was an early start, we set off at 05:45 still dark but the birds were in full song for the dawn chorus, just magical. We got parked up in the Wyming Brook car park about 07:00 ish. Had a read of the notice board then set off in a clockwise route. We wandered up Redmires Rd to the top reservoir then took the footpath along the oddly named Conduit. There was what looked like the overspill (large plughole to me and you) then we passed a few little bridges and saw several grouse. There's not many tree's around on the moor but one tree had a small memorial cross. We followed the track across the moorland past a few sheep then spotted a tower of rock sticking out of the heather, its got a name apparently called The Head Stone. From there we crossed a bit more moorland into the woods of Wyming Brook Nature Reserve, we had got slightly off the official path and this ended with a steep decent onto the main track through the park called Wyming Brook Drive. We found a seat and had our breakfast there. We met a couple of interesting people, one of them looked very similar to one of the fiends of Ike that died a while ago, he told us some useful info about the place. Then a couple came along with their dog and we had a nice chat to them too, the dog was very lively and had a job getting a decent pic of it. After chatting for a while we set off back on the track and eventually ended up at the bottom of Wyming Brook so started the slow climb alongside the brook back to the car. We stopped in several places to take pics of the waterfalls, i have to admit its a photographers paradise. When i do long exposure water shots i normally use my tripod, but not having one with me it was a case of wedging the camera against a tree or a rock. Some of the water shots may be a touch blurred because of the lack of the tripod.

A cracking walk across moors, through woods and following a lovely tumbling brook, what more could you ask for. Throughout the walk their was plenty of birdsong including a curlew several times, grouse, all the small woodland birds and we even heard a peacock which we think was from a farm on the other side of the valley. The walk was about 4 1/2 miles with a few ups and downs and none of us had done it before. The rain kept off until we got back to the car so happy days.
see you net week
